There is strong evidence that poor whites, all the way back to slavery days, were manipulated by Plantation Owners to both hate black people AND provide their services as overseers. I beg to differ that the right wing isn’t right now encouraging racist behavior and more ominously fascist behavior. Fox News is a cesspool of fascism and it is only getting worse. I also write and teach that racism and prejudice is a pre cursor to Fascsim…witness the KKK, the Confederacy etc. The “deplorables” that Mrs. Clinton so famously used to describe a caste of dispossessed white peoples, who use racism to keep the poor blacks “in their place”.
