Sacramento is in the Big Time
“Sacramento State has long been a university of unrealized potential. President Luke Wood is trying to change that, to raise Sac State to new heights. And notably, a new conference.
The institution recently announced its plans to build a new 25,000-seat football stadium, on top of a potential bid to move to the Football Bowl Subdivision, the highest level of college football. Currently, Sac State is in the Big Sky conference, which is in the Football Championship Subdivision. Moving from the FCS to the FBS is like moving from the minor leagues to the major leagues.” Sacramento Bee
I call this the small town phenomenon. For years Sacramento has pictured itself as a small, capital town…with a few high schools, as small state college…This was when I lived in Sacramento in the early 1970s…
I returned in 2016….What a difference…Highways had exploded in size…traffic was very busy, especially in the morning…Hwy 80 and Hwy are being doubled in size to handle the traffic…etc etc.
But the attitude of citizens remains in the small city attitude.
Sac State, actually Sacramento State Univerisity….has proven over and over again that it is in the big time…
Sac State holds its own against Power Five Colleges…Just last year Stanford Football lost to Sac State.
Now the stadium is being enlarged with an aim to get into the renewed PAC 10 conference…
Basically the college like the city is now a large metropolis not a sleepy little capitol city….
