“Racism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia, they’re all connected,” Biden said. “But the antidote to hate is love.” Sacramento Bee…

I am fortunate enough to teach in “Renaissance”…a continuing education program for seniors at CSU Sacramento.

I long ago decided that the way out of the hate and the gridlock of private interest versus public interest, was education.

And the age demographic that I chose were seniors.

Seniors you might say, isn’t that a bit late?

I am part Native American, not culturally but by historical family tree. My parents long ago, because of racist laws passed in California of all places, put down Caucasian as race because in 1944 California passed a law outlawing bi-racial marriages. These racist laws were later struck down by SCOTUS.

When I was 50 I “discovered” my multi-cultural background from my father’s purchase of a family tree on the Beale side.

I decided then to devote my educational efforts in to the Native American Experience , Or “We Shall Remain!”

The recent bipartisan (?) law that Biden signed this week, finally codifies once again, why multi-cultural is based on love for your neighbor (which is the core of almost every religion on earth), is the ONLY way to live our lives….

Why teach seniors? America is a young centered culture…when you hit 40 you are considered old and irrelevant.

My Cherokee ancestors, as most Native Indigenous People, favors seniors as the source of their basic approach to others. They reasoned correctly that those with the most life experience were best to go to for advice and often leadership. The “ELDERS” were often at least the major advisors to tribal chiefs, holding a veto power over rash decisions.

Often the Chiefs were the oldest “warriors” and often WOMEN were also a vital role in making decisions. It was reasoned (correctly) that the hormones in young men was to fight first and talk later…Women, the nurturers of children held an opposite view.

Cultural differences are to be prized in our country. Diversity and inclusion are the touchstone of my class AND as it turns out, have a special division at CSU Sacrament (and all colleges that I can think of) praising multi-culturalism. and tolerance for ALL PEOPLE as the humane way of world citizenship.

In my recent class, we ended it with the Holocaust, is an incredibly important historical fact that proves harshly that love your neighbor is the ONLY approach a society can adopt.

I added Fascism to the title, since it is the target to be stopped by the Bill that President Biden just signed.

The USA is right now struggling with this age old issue: Do we follow the haters, the simple solution to complex problems, or do we follow the ELDERS who are wise and conciliatory?

I am voting for the latter…
