Multi Cultural Education to be a Requirement in CSU System….
Finally, finally…this only took 60 years to finally make it a requirement…and the curriculum is of course more extensive than mine…but in the same area.
We ALL, including me, need more cultural awareness…remember Race is an artificial term that divides us.
Cross cultural education, I don’t like the term ethnic (it gets back to race again) is a must.
Europe does it…because of the horrors of WWII…many other cultures do it.
Unfortunately, the United States has made it a political thing…falsely claiming that it hinders assimilation.
How many Chinese Restaurants did your frequent this year? How many Middle East Restaurants have you visited? How about Taco Den…Taco etc etc?
We live in a multi cultural society, the most diverse multi-cultural nation on the planet, with a white supremacy and privilege core.
And that in the problem…and for what?
This social, political and economic disaster just now is resulting in a pandemic that is killing far too many cultures within the diversity of America.
The culture of poverty for example, that has been practiced for hundreds of years, founded in slavery, in exclusion acts, in genocide of people and their culture, is weakening the “experiment” that purports to make America a melting pot of cultures.
And that is a lie…assimilation demands that cultures be destroyed at the feet of a prejudiced and racist dominant Western European culture.
The same culture that has brought two massive kill offs called WWI and WWII, the same culture that drove the “white man’s burden” (colonialism), the same culture that right now has the United States losing thousands of lives and with its economy in tatters…due to the erroneous allegiance to a culture that is based on profit rather than human value.
Western Culture does not respect humanity and its cultural diversity! It doesn’t.
You, a class of elderly people, know that….you have lived it…and you want to know what to do.
Write support letters for an ethnic rich education, educating Americans as to the beautiful diversity and number of cultures that we are lucky to have in America.
And…then we will be indeed responsible for the sins of western culture ethnocentrism…which means reparations, it means giving at least some of the land back to Native Americans (the Black Hills would be a start including Mt.Rushmore).
And nobody will lose if it is done right…western cultures can live on Indian Reservations…but the Native Americans need to have political power to match the “white mans”….
And it will work..it worked in South Africa..it works all over the place, as multi cultures exist within a nation state…It takes work, it takes wonder, it takes love,it takes a the same spirit you use when you walk into a Laotian Restaurant and order something you can’t pronounce.
It will work!
