Global Warming Sneaks Again Into Our Lives

I live in Sacramento California. It is a “temperate climate”.

Last year this “temperate climate” nearly killed some people. I live in an HOA. In the 1970s the person who built the beginning of what is now a huge HOA (Campus Commons), developoment.

To satisfy his wife, he deliberately rooted several species of trees that do not live naturally in the Sacramento area.

The American River lives about 200 years away…Sacramento is a “River City” and lives up to its reputation. At least 3 rivers run through Sacramento and outlying areas.

The 2023 New Years saw a high wing and rain week, that created chaos in our area. Trees blew down, there was some flooding but the trees (stupid) nearly killed at least 20 people…their houses were destroyed.

So what does Climate Change have anything to do with this?

In late October we had a week of will over 100 degrees! The summer was at least a month longer than usual.

The trees that were planted wrongly did not do well. They were mostly coastal trees, Redwoods etc., and were starving for rain. There roots were closer to the earth’s surface, desperately trying to get water from the irrigation system.

This meant the roots were higher, even higher than Redwoods.

What developed was a perfect storm: The trees were not rooted deeply enough, and were easily knocked over by the winds. As a result at least 20 homes were destroyed or damaged severely.

Luckily nobody was killed.

Climate change is subtle. Sacramento is a city sprawled, like many cities in California, and needs automobiles to commute relatively long distances, (some over 20 miles one way).

The next Presidential Election may be decided, like others lately, on gasoline prices. Sacramento like most cities, depends on private automobiles to run its economy: Commutes of over 20 miles one way are common.

So the CO2 is huge coming from the exhaust of the cars and trucks.

Sacramento has a decent public transportation system that is barely used.

This is common all over California and the United States. The privately owned automobile is the transportation of choice for all. People shun the trains and buses.

And, people go by planes rather than by trains for long distances.

Scientists have warned that we must cut our climate destroyers by the next 20 years or else. Nobody believes them.

Gas companies have political propaganda efforts to convince the public that oil and gas are not the culprits of climate change. Science says differently.

Gas and oil is the backbone of climate change. And this climate change could, by most scientific conclusions, destroy society as we know it.

On short billions of people and all living things will die.

That’s right DIE!
