“Critique of pure tolerance”…that is the name of a book I read as a graduate student.
It basically was written because of the Vietnam War and WWII.
The context to this is this: Those on the right, fascism, always issue hateful and politically fascist statements. They believe what they say. But they also ask for tolerance in sharp contrast to their INTOLERANCE of those who they hate. In short a double standard that is the essence of fascism behavior.
In the Weimar Republic this meant letting Hitler out of jail, where he was for his sedition toward the Weimar Democracy. Hitler also demanded a double standard; he could encourage rebellion because it was his free speech right; and never mind that that same free speech was aimed at destroying the rights of others.
We see that with the fascist Republican Party, yes Party, and others like this radio host, who calls for death to others but when confronted with it, claims he really didn’t mean it.
So he can cry fire in a crowded theater leading to panic and death, but really didn’t mean it…in short tolerate my behavior because I can, but with no accountability.
And that is Fascism. Hitler and the Nazis had like 1% of the German Parliament and due to the Republic’s tolerance of him and his gang of thugs, cost Germany its fledgling democracy and led to WWII the Holocaust and death for 55,000,000 people.
And still they claimed tolerance for their free speech.
There is no tolerance for fascism.
We are faced with this right now. Millions of Americans are bewitched by Trump, swallowing his lies and calling for death for their “opponents”. And many of us, who are being tagged for death, say, “Well it’s free speech”.
The SCOTUS long ago said this kind of behavior is most definitely NOT FREE SPEECH.
Trump just got away with it again. He and his sons and Rudy etc openly called for insurrection.
Now, when their work has not worked (yet) they cry for tolerance.
That is precisely what cost Germany its democracy and led to WWII.
DO NOT TOLERATE THEM…SHUN THEM.
A politician in the Sacramento area is in trouble for saying the words I wrote above. Why?
Because it is intolerant. This is exactly the head in the stand that fascism always seeks, hypocrisy that leads to the success of fascism.
It is not complicated….This radio host called for death to the media, the mob went after the media…this radio host needs to be tried for sedition.
But he will walk, you watch, because of a distorted and wrong stance by the rest of us.
DO NOT TOLERATE FASCISM. It is like getting into a gunfight and bringing a knife..they are armed to the teeth and don’t tolerate you, but when called on it, they demand free speech.
Threatening people (and that doesn’t include shunning them) is NOT FREE SPEECH.
SHUNNING A PERSON IS NOT GOING TO KILL THEM…THE THREATS TOWARD THE PRESS ARE MEANT TO SILENCE THEM SO FASCISM CAN GROW.
REMEMBER THE BURNING OF THE BOOKS, THE BURNING OF THE REICHSTAG…BOTH TOLERATED BY THE GERMAN POPULATION, APPEASING FASCISM: A QUICK TRIP TO DICTATORSHIP.
I still suggest shunning family members who adhere even to part of MAGA doctrine…because as I have said tirelessly to everyone we are indeed confronting fascism in all of its danger…and we cannot tolerate it.
Do not tolerate this…We are talking about a struggle for the soul of our free democracy!
